IBM feature #EM04 is a pair of 2 GB DDR3 memory DIMMs, ordered as 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) at 1066 MHz, for the IBM Power 710 and 730 (8231) and the IBM Power 720 and 740 (8202 and 8205). It is one of four POWER7 memory features of the same family, with #EM08 (8 GB), #EM16 (16 GB) and #EM32 (32 GB).
Memory in these systems is installed on memory riser cards, in pairs. On the Power 710 and 730 each riser card has four DDR3 DIMM slots and one riser is in the base system, so an #EM04 feature takes two of the four sockets. The Power 710 adds one optional riser (#5265) and the Power 730 up to three, and maximum memory is 64 GB without #5265 and 128 GB with one on the 710. On the Power 720 and 740 each riser card has eight DIMM slots, with one riser in the base system and optional risers ordered as #EM01.
The minimum memory capacity of the Power 720 and 740 is 4 GB, two 2 GB DIMMs, which is one #EM04. #EM04 can be mixed with #EM08, #EM16 and #EM32 on the same riser card as long as one DIMM type is used within each DIMM quad. On the Power 710 and 730 the second memory feature on a riser card does not have to match the first.
