N9X96A is the HPE MSA 800GB 12G SAS Mixed Use SFF (2.5in) Solid State Drive, a drive made for HPE MSA storage systems only. It has a 12Gb SAS interface in the 2.5-inch small form factor, and the Mixed Use endurance class suits a balance of reads and writes. The spare drive is 841505-001, the 800GB 12Gbps SAS SSD in the same SFF mixed use configuration.
In the MSA 2050 array enclosure, which has 24 SFF bays, SFF SSDs come in 800GB, 960GB, 1.6TB, 1.92TB and 3.2TB capacities, and an array can hold up to 192 SFF SSDs. SSDs can share an array enclosure and disk enclosure with Enterprise SAS and Midline SAS drives. The 3.2TB size fills a 24-bay enclosure to 76.8 TB raw capacity.
Larger Mixed Use SFF drives in the same line are the 1.6TB N9X91A and the 3.2TB N9X92A. A self-encrypting 800GB Mixed Use SFF drive for MSA is Q9D47A, and the 800GB Mixed Use drive in a 3.5-inch converter carrier for LFF bays is P9M80A.
MSA 2050 NEBS-compliant arrays Q1J04A and Q1J32A are certified when fitted with specific SFF SAS drives, and HPE marks the NEBS-certified SKUs alongside these SSDs. HPE restricts MSA drives to MSA storage systems.
