P56970-B21 is the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 8SFF BC configure-to-order (CTO) server, a 2U two-socket chassis with eight small form factor (2.5-inch) drive bays and 24 DIMM slots; HPE ships it without processors. This SKU is the embedded-LOM version, shipping with the HPE 1Gb Ethernet 4-port 331i adapter, with an optional FlexibleLOM or stand-up card on top. It takes 1st and 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors; HPE lists up to 768 GB of memory per processor (1.5 TB with M-series parts) and does not allow two different processor models in one server.
BC stands for Basic Carrier: HPE limits Broadcom MegaRAID controllers and Basic Carrier drives to this chassis and its twin, with the MR416i-p (P06367-B21), MR416i-a (P26279-B21), MR216i-p (P26324-B21) and MR216i-a (P26325-B21) listed as the controllers. HPE does not support Smart Array controllers, Smart Carrier drives or NVMe in this MegaRAID configuration, and BC and SC carriers cannot be mixed. Storage on the board is embedded software RAID with 14 SATA ports (12 accessible), and the controller choice is an HPE tri-mode controller for SAS/SATA. HPE ships it with the default SAS/SATA drive cage and backplane plus tri-mode to SAS/SATA cables, and lists P57772-B21 (2SFF BC riser), P57773-B21 (2SFF Premium BC front/rear backplane) and P57774-B21 (8SFF BC Box 1-2 backplane) as the Basic Carrier cages for MegaRAID builds. Cooling is four standard fans on the one-processor build; HPE's second-processor kit adds two more. It has one USB 3.0 port as standard alongside the iLO front service port.
HPE lists Trusted Supply Chain (P36394-B21) as an option for the BC chassis; it builds the server in a secured US facility and rebrands it DL380T Gen10. Its twin is P56969-B21, the NC 8SFF BC model. Before ordering parts, match the server to DL380 Gen10 8SFF BC on the pull tab or label and check that the four 331i ports are present on the rear.
