ST4000VN000 is the 4TB model of the Seagate NAS HDD, a SATA drive built for 24x7 operation in network-attached storage. Four disks and eight heads hold 4000GB, or 7,814,037,168 guaranteed sectors, with 4096-byte physical sectors emulated at 512 bytes. The cache buffer is 64MB, and average latency is 5.1 ms.
The drive is tuned for RAID, with Balance technology for systems holding several drives, low activity and idle power, and quiet acoustic performance. It optimizes streaming video with consistent command completion times and ERC support, and it supports ATA8 streaming commands, Native Command Queuing and a Worldwide Name. Off-the-shelf compatibility is part of its design.
The interface is Serial ATA with a 600MB/s I/O data-transfer rate and a maximum sustained read rate of 180MB/s at the outer diameter. Recording density is 1807 kFCI, track density is 340 ktracks/in and areal density is 625 Gb/in2. Reliability figures are a 1,000,000 hour MTBF and an average annualized workload rating of under 180TB per year, with 300,000 load-unload cycles. Typical weight is 610g (1.345 lb), startup current is a typical 2.0A at 12V and power-on to ready is under 17 seconds. The 3TB, 2TB and 1TB models of this drive are ST3000VN000, ST2000VN000 and ST1000VN000.
