XX7MT: Dell 8TB 3.5in HDD Toshiba MG06SCA800AY

XX7MT is a Dell 8TB 3.5 inch 7.2K rpm hard drive tied to the Toshiba MG06SCA800AY. It is formatted 4Kn, runs firmware EH0D, is supported in MD1400 and MD1420 storage enclosures, and is not self-encrypting (non-SED).

The MG06SCA series is Toshiba's Enterprise Capacity HDD line, with 10, 8 and 6 TB models in an industry-standard 3.5 inch, 26.1 mm height form factor. The 800A member is the 8 TB 4Kn model: MG06SCAxxxA drives use 4096 B, 4160 B or 4224 B fixed-length blocks, while the E models emulate 512 B sectors on a 4096 B disk.

The dual-port SAS-3 interface runs at 12.0 Gbit/s and steps down to 6.0, 3.0 and 1.5 Gbit/s. The drives spin at 7,200 rpm with a 256 MiB buffer, 4.2 ms average latency and 8.5 ms average read seek. MTTF is 2.5 million hours, the unrecoverable error rate is 1 in 10^15 bits, and the workload rating is 550 total TB transferred per year with 24/7 duty.

Toshiba Persistent Write Cache technology helps maintain data integrity during power-loss events. Acoustic sound power is 34 dB typical at active idle, and the drive withstands 70 G operating shock for 2 ms. Typical applications are tier 2 business-critical servers, capacity-optimized data center storage, and object and file storage.
