HPE 3.84TB SATA 6G Read Intensive SFF SC Multi Vendor SSD (P18428-B21)

HPE PartSurfer lists P18428-B21 as the HPE 3.84TB SATA 6G Read Intensive SFF SC Multi Vendor SSD, with spare P18485-001 (3.84TB SATA SSD, 2.5-inch SFF, Smart Carrier, Read Intensive). HPE's current SSD QuickSpecs list the same drive as P18428-X21.

HPE rates it at 5,256 TB written, or 0.8 drive writes per day, with sequential reads and writes of up to 503 and 480 MiB/s. It is single-port SATA on TLC NAND, and the listed platforms are Gen10 and Gen10 Plus.

SATA Read Intensive is HPE's entry SSD class. HPE positions its SATA SSDs as its entry-level enterprise SSDs for read-intensive workloads, where the cost per IOPS compares well with hard drives. At 3.84TB, it suits file and web serving, VDI images, backup staging and read-mostly databases on a SATA-capable controller, including the embedded software RAID on many ProLiant servers.

What to weigh against siblings: for writes, the 3.84TB SATA Mixed Use drive (P18438) is rated 3.0 DWPD and 21,024 TB written, about four times the endurance; for capacity, P18430 is the 7.68TB Read Intensive version. For roughly twice the IOPS of SATA, HPE points to its single-port Value SAS drives.

The Smart Carrier fits Gen10 SFF bays; HPE's carrier decoder lists Basic Carriers for Intel Gen10 Plus and Gen11 rack servers, so check the carrier style even though Gen10 Plus is listed. Multi Vendor means more than one maker supplies the number, with each order a homogeneous set from one vendor.

To confirm fit, check that the bay uses Smart Carriers and match P18485-001 on the drive label when replacing a failed unit.
