Feature code BYM5 (option 4XB7A90886) is the ThinkSystem 2.5-inch VA 1.92TB Mixed Use SATA 6Gb hot-swap SSD v2. Mixed Use is Lenovo's mid-endurance class: this drive is rated at 4 drive writes per day, or 14,016 TB written, against 1 DWPD and 3,504 TB for the Read Intensive VA drive of the same size, 4XB7A90875 (BYLT).
Lenovo Press lists 82,000 random read and 47,500 random write IOPS (4 KB) and 480 MBps read and 460 MBps write sequential rates. Write IOPS are the main gain over the Read Intensive drive, which is rated at 28,000. The v2 drive is not self-encrypting; Lenovo lists SED versions, such as 4XB7B09974 (CBV7) at 1.92TB.
Other Mixed Use VA SATA sizes are 480GB 4XB7A90884 (BYM2), 960GB 4XB7A90885 (BYM4) and 3.84TB 4XB7A90887 (BYM6). Lenovo lists the drives for ThinkSystem servers from V2 to V4, including the SR630 V2, SR650 V2, SR630 V3, SR650 V3, SR645 V3, SR665 V3, SR850 V3, SR630 V4, SR650 V4 and the SE450 and SE455 V3 edge servers.
Because VA drives can come from different makers, Lenovo warns that not all variants are VMware vSAN or Microsoft S2D certified. Choose this drive over the Read Intensive version for database logs, caching or other write-heavy work, and check that the server is on Lenovo's list with a 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS/SATA bay.
