The ThinkSystem 2.5-inch VA 960GB Read Intensive SATA 6Gb hot-swap SSD v2 is Lenovo feature code BYLS (option 4XB7A90874). It belongs to Lenovo's Vendor Agnostic program, in which the same option number can ship with SSDs from different makers, and Lenovo rates it for one drive write per day.
Lenovo Press gives this capacity 1,752 TB total bytes written, 81,000 random read and 28,000 random write IOPS (4 KB), 480 MBps sequential read, 460 MBps sequential write and an MTBF of 2 million hours. It is not a self-encrypting drive.
Against its neighbours, the 480GB 4XB7A90873 (BYLR) writes more slowly at 320 MBps and 15,000 IOPS, while the 1.92TB 4XB7A90875 (BYLT) has the same write figures and double the endurance at 3,504 TB. Lenovo lists the 960GB drive for the same servers as the rest of the family, from the SR630 V2 and SR650 V2 through the SR630 V3, SR650 V3, SR645 V3 and SR665 V3 to the SR630 V4 and SR650 V4, plus the ST250 V3, SR250 V3 and edge SE450.
Lenovo notes that VA drives may not meet VMware vSAN or Microsoft S2D certification because the vendor can vary, and recommends ThinkAgile systems for those clusters. Confirm that the server is on Lenovo's list and has a free 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS/SATA bay.
