WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2 is the Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 2 that comes with a factory-installed PFC2 daughter card (WS-F6K-PFC2) and a factory-installed MSFC2 daughter card (WS-F6K-MSFC2). It has two 1000BASE-X uplink ports that need GBIC transceivers. The MSFC2 comes with 512 MB of memory.
Supervisor Engine 2 goes only in slots 1 and 2 of a Catalyst 6500 chassis and works in every Catalyst 6500 chassis except the 6509-V-E. Minimum software is 12.2(17d)SXB. The backplane is a 32-Gbps shared bus, rising to 256 Gbps when a Switch Fabric Module (WS-C6500-SFM or WS-X6500-SFM2) is installed. Low-speed fan trays provide enough cooling, so a high-speed fan tray is not required.
Memory on the supervisor processor is 128 MB of DRAM by default, upgradable to 512 MB, with 512 KB of NVRAM and 32 MB of onboard flash. The same family has two other versions: the WS-X6K-S2-PFC2, which has a PFC2 but no MSFC card and runs only the Catalyst operating system, and the WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2, which has 256 MB of DRAM by default.
