NJWMG: Dell 8TB 3.5 inch 7.2K HDD Toshiba MG08SDA800EY

NJWMG is a Dell 8TB 3.5-inch 7.2K rpm hard drive with 512e sector format. Dell MD1400 and MD1420 enclosures support it as Toshiba model MG08SDA800EY with firmware EL02, and it is not self-encrypting.

MG08SDA800EY comes from Toshiba's MG08-D Enterprise Capacity range, built for mid-line and nearline business-critical workloads. The SDA series is the SAS-3 branch, and the E in the model number marks 512e sectors, where the host sees 512 bytes (or 520) while the disk stores 4096 (or 4160). The trailing Y marks the Sanitize Instant Erase option.

Interface speeds run 12.0, 6.0, 3.0 and 1.5 Gbit/s. Spindle speed is 7200 rpm with a 256 MiB buffer, and the 8 TB capacity sustains up to 248 MiB/s. Toshiba specifies 2,000,000 hours MTTF at 0.44 percent AFR, 600,000 load/unload cycles, a rated workload of 550 TB per year and an error rate of 10 per 10^16 bits read.

It uses the industry-standard 3.5-inch, 26.1 mm height. Typical draw is 9.72 W for 4 KB queue-depth-1 write or read and 6.06 W active idle, from 12 V and 5 V rails, with acoustics at 31 dB idle.
