01PE817 is the Lenovo spare part number for the ThinkSystem RAID 940-8i 8GB Flash PCIe Gen4 12Gb Adapter, a RAID adapter in the adapters commodity. It is also sold as option 4Y37A09729, feature code B8NW (the SAS/SATA configuration; the Tri-Mode configuration of the same adapter uses feature code BGM0).
The adapter is built on a Broadcom SAS3908 controller, the equivalent of the MegaRAID 9560-8i 8G, with a PCIe 4.0 x8 host interface and 12 Gb SAS port interface. It is a low profile PCIe card with 8 ports on one x8 SFF-8654 connector and takes up to 8 hot-swap devices of the HDD, SED or SSD type; with Tri-Mode it takes SAS, SATA and NVMe U.3 drives, and NVMe U.2 drives are not supported. Cache is 8GB, standard, with CacheVault flash protection. RAID levels are 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6 and 60, with a JBOD (non-RAID) mode, up to 240 virtual drives per controller and 16 per array, logical drive sizes above 2 TB and a stripe size up to 1 MB. FastPath (Performance Accelerator) and SafeStore SED support are included, and CacheCade is not supported. The adapter takes 512e, 512n and 4K sector drives, supports UNMAP on SAS SSDs and TRIM on SATA SSDs in JBOD, and accepts mixed drive speeds.
