3584-D23 is the IBM TS3500 Tape Library Model D23, an expansion frame for 3592 tape drives. It attaches to the base frame, a Model L23 in a 3592 library, with the frames joined side by side and the base frame on the left. A D23 holds up to 12 tape drives and cannot hold Ultrium and 3592 drives together in the same frame.
Storage slots depend on the drive count: 400 with no drives, 383 with one to four, 371 with five to eight and 360 with nine to twelve. A newly purchased D23 can be ordered with four I/O stations as feature 1656, which needs the enhanced frame control assembly (feature 1451). The stations add 64 I/O slots, 16 behind each door, and take 160 storage slots from the frame. A library can hold at most three D-frames with I/O stations.
The frame is 1800 mm high, 725 mm wide without covers and 1212 mm deep including doors, with 30 mm of spacing needed between frames. With 12 drives, 360 cartridges and backend Fibre Channel switches it weighs 487.75 kg (1075 lb). With feature 1451 it draws 103 W idle and 103 W maximum continuous, and its dual ac line cords take 200 to 240 V ac.
IBM lists plant install features for 3592 drives in a D23, from the E05 (feature 9680) to the 60G (feature 9706), and an IBM service representative performs the D22 to D23 and D23 to D53 model conversions.
