Cisco lists the A9K-8X100GE-SE as an ASR 9000 line card with eight 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports, all at line rate and non-oversubscribed. The ports take Cisco CPAK pluggable optics, which can run in 100GE, 40GE or 10GE mode, and one port can break out into 10 x 10GE with 10x10G-LR optics.
The SE stands for service edge optimized, which Cisco describes as enhanced QoS. The A9K-8X100GE-TR is the packet transport optimized card with basic QoS, and both use the LAN/WAN/OTN PHY. The A9K-8X100G-LB-SE is the LAN PHY-only service edge card. The A9K-4X100GE-SE is the 4-port card, with the same dimensions, weight and environmental figures.
Cisco names the ASR 9006, 9010, 9904, 9906, 9912 and 9922 chassis for it, and notes that a chassis may need cooling or power updates. The card is 14.5 x 1.63 x 22.02 in (368.3 x 41.4 x 559.3 mm), about 28 lb (12.7 kg). Operating temperature is 5 to 40 C and humidity is 10 to 85 percent. Online insertion and removal is supported without system impact.
Optional per-card licences are Infrastructure VRF (up to 8 VRFs), Advanced IP, IPv6 carrier-grade NAT, Advanced Optical and MACsec 100G. For full-scale VRF on the SE card Cisco gives the A9K-800G-AIP-SE. The Flexible Consumption Model equivalent is the A9K-8X100GE-FC.
