R6Q75A is HPE's LTO-9 Ultrium 45000 half-height tape drive with a 12Gb SAS interface, packaged as a drive upgrade kit for StoreEver MSL tape libraries. PartSurfer lists the spare as P37366-001 (Tape Drive, LTO-9 45000 SAS Upg Kit). The Fibre Channel version is R6Q74A.
HPE's firmware notice lists the LTO-9 drive kits for the StoreEver 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader and the MSL2024, MSL3040 and MSL6480 libraries. It also states that the MSL4048, MSL8048 and MSL8096 do not support LTO-9 drives. The MSL3040 product reference guide shows the SAS LTO-9 drive with two Mini-SAS HD connectors and a native transfer rate range of 101 to 300 MB/s. Its capacity figures of 720 TB native per 40-slot module work out to 18 TB native per LTO-9 cartridge. It also lists a 15 to 32 °C operating range for LTO-9.
Per HPE, ninth-generation LTO drives read and write LTO-8 and LTO-9 media only. They cannot read LTO-7 or older tapes, so keep an older drive if you need to restore archives on those cartridges. HPE notes that new LTO-9 cartridges need a one-time media initialization on first load, which affects the first backup window.
HPE's notice marks drive firmware NCA1 as critical for LTO-9 WORM media use. Normal-mode drive firmware comes with the library firmware bundle, and secure-mode firmware for hardware encryption is a separate download. After installing a used drive, update the library and drive firmware before putting it into production.
