IBM feature #EM98 is a 64 GB DDR4 custom DIMM, CCIN 31EE, FRU 00VK301, for the 2U POWER8 scale-out servers Power S812L (8247-21L), Power S822L (8247-22L) and Power S822 (8284-22A). It is the short CDIMM form used in these systems, and it runs at 1600 MHz, the same speed as the DDR3 modules, because the DDR4 modules on these servers operate at DDR3 speed.
One #EM98 equals one CDIMM, and a system takes CDIMMs in matched pairs. The Power S822L and S822 accept up to 16 of them, which fills the sixteen CDIMM slots and reaches 1024 GB, while the single-socket Power S812L has eight slots, so eight #EM98 CDIMMs reach 512 GB. Each CDIMM also holds 16 MB of L4 cache.
The minimum memory is 16 GB on the Power S812L and 32 GB on the Power S822L and S822. On a Power S822L with a single processor module, pairs go into slots C16 and C18, C21 and C23, C17 and C19, and finally C20 and C22. With two processor modules the sequence runs C16/C18, C24/C26, C21/C23, C29/C31, C17/C19, C25/C27, C20/C22 and C28/C30.
