HPE's Aruba transceiver guide lists J4859C as the HPE X121 1G SFP LC LX Transceiver and marks it end of sale. It is a single-lane 1310 nm optic with 1x1G NRZ encoding and a duplex LC (PC or UPC) connector. HPE rates it for 10 km on 9/125 single-mode fiber and 550 m on 50/125 or 62.5/125 multimode fiber.
The guide gives it digital optical monitoring, a 1 W power draw, a commercial operating range of 0 to 70 °C, transmit power of -9.5 to -3 dBm and a receive range of -20 to -3 dBm.
Switch families the guide lists as supporting it on all software include the 2930F/2930M, 3810M and 5400R, and the 6100 supports it from 10.06.0001. The 6000 series is not listed for J4859C, and the 9300 does not take 1G optics.
The Aruba-branded LX optic in the same HPE table row is the J4859D; for multimode runs the 850 nm SX optic is the J4858D, and the switches that take them are on the HPE Aruba and ProCurve switches page.
Fit check: match your switch family and software version to HPE's compatibility list, and use single-mode fiber for any run longer than 550 m.
