Dell PowerSwitch N3048P 48-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch with 2 SFP+ and 2 Combo Ports

The Dell PowerSwitch N3048P is a 1RU stackable Layer 2 and Layer 3 gigabit switch with 48 RJ-45 10/100/1000BASE-T ports that supply PoE of 15.4 W and PoE+ of 30 W, twelve of which are PoE 60 W capable. It adds two 10G SFP+ ports, two 1G combo ports, two mini-SAS stacking ports on the PSU side, a dedicated 10/100/1000BASE-T out-of-band management port, a USB 2.0 port and an RJ-45 RS232 console port.

One expansion bay on the PSU side takes a hot-swappable two-port 10GBASE-T or SFP+ module that needs no reboot. N3048P switches run Dell Networking OS6 and keep two firmware images on board. The N3048P supports IEEE 802.3at PoE+, with 4 MB of packet buffer memory, 256 MB of flash, 1 GB of CPU memory, 32K MAC addresses, 4,094 VLANs, 1,024 static routes for IPv4 and for IPv6, 8,160 dynamic IPv4 routes and 4,096 dynamic IPv6 routes. Each port has 8 priority queues, jumbo frames reach 9,216 bytes, and link aggregation provides 128 LAGs with 8 member ports each.

A switch ships with a single 1100 W power supply and can take a second 1100 W power supply for redundancy. One 1100 W supply feeds up to 24 PoE devices at full PoE+ power of 950 W, and two supplies feed up to 48 PoE devices at a total of 1800 W. PoE power is allocated dynamically, so ports that do not need the full 30 W leave budget for others. Maximum power consumption is 2,145 W, maximum thermal output is 3,113.33 BTU/hr and power supply efficiency is 80% or better in all operating modes.

The chassis measures 17.1 x 16.0 x 1.7 in (434.0 x 407.0 x 43.5 mm), the power supply handle adds 1.38 in (35 mm), and two fans cool it, with another fan in each power supply and a removable fan module. Airflow runs from the I/O side to the power supply side. The Dell ReadyRails kit mounts it in a 19-inch rack and the carton includes an RJ-45 to DB-9 console cable.
