Dell Networking S3148 48-Port Gigabit Layer 3 Switch with Two 10GbE SFP+ Ports (S3148)

The S3148 is a Dell Networking S3100-series 1RU switch with 48 RJ45 10/100/1000 auto-sensing ports, two integrated front 10GbE SFP+ ports and two GbE combo fiber/copper ports. One hot-swap expansion bay takes a 2-port 10GBASE-T or 2-port 10GbE SFP+ module. One 200 W power supply is included, and a second 200 W AC hot-swap supply adds redundancy.

Switch fabric capacity is 260 Gbps full duplex with a forwarding rate of 193 Mpps, and Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing are line-rate and non-blocking. The switch has 4 MB of packet buffer, 2 GB of DDR3 CPU memory, 1 GB of flash and 8 priority queues per port. Tables hold 56K MAC addresses (80K in L2 scaled mode), 22K IPv4 hosts, 16K IPv6 hosts, 16K IPv4 and 8K IPv6 dynamic routes and 4K VLANs, with 64 MSTP instances and 511 VRF-lite instances. The engine is store and forward and the MTU is 12,000 bytes.

Two rear stacking ports of 21 Gbps each support up to 84 Gbps full duplex, and up to 12 switches can be managed from a single IP address. Dell Networking OS9 provides one common CLI, VLT, VRF-lite, PVST+ interoperability with Cisco networks, private VLANs, policy-based routing, Routed Port Monitoring and OpenFlow 1.3.

Management is through the CLI, SNMP, Telnet, a 10/100/1000BASE-T out-of-band port, a USB Type-A port for loading configuration from a flash drive and an RJ45 console port with RS232 signaling (an RJ-45 to DB-9 cable is included). Dual firmware images are stored on board. The chassis is 43.5 mm high, 434.0 mm wide and 407.0 mm deep, with I/O-to-power-supply airflow and redundant variable-speed fans. Maximum power consumption is 74.8 W, maximum thermal output is 221.11 BTU/hr, and ReadyRails mount it without tools.
