J8706A is the HP 24-port Mini-GBIC zl Module, one of the original "v1 zl" modules in HPE's support article on module versions for the zl/zl2 switch family.
HPE states that the 5400zl and 8200zl switches run K software (for example K.15.16.0008) and support both the original v1 zl modules and the newer v2 zl modules, but not v3 zl2 modules.
The 5400Rzl2 runs KB software and supports v2 zl and v3 zl2 modules, but not the original v1 zl modules, so this card does not work in a 5400R chassis.
HPE adds that v3 zl2 modules need at least KB.15.17.0004.
It is also listed among the modules in HP's E8200 zl Switch Series option parts list.
The v1 list also includes the 4-port 10GbE SFP+ (J9309A), 20-port Gig-T/4-port Mini-GBIC (J8705A) and 24-port 10/100/1000 PoE (J8702A) modules.
For a chassis that mixes generations, the closest v2 module is the 24-port SFP v2 zl Module (J9537A), which runs under both K and KB software; for a 5400Rzl2 only, the v3 option is the 24-port 1GbE SFP MACsec v3 zl2 Module (J9988A).
