Feature code BP3E (option 4XB7A80321) is the ThinkSystem 2.5-inch PM1653 7.68TB Read Intensive SAS 24Gb hot-swap SSD. Lenovo Press identifies the drive as Samsung MZILG7T6HBLA-V7, with TCG Enterprise self-encryption, and names the PM1653 as the follow-on to the PM1643a with improved performance.
Lenovo rates it at 1 drive write per day (14,016 TB written). On a 24Gb SAS connection it reaches 420,000 random read and 110,000 random write IOPS (4 KB) and 2,100 MB/s read and 2,000 MB/s write. Connected at 12Gb, the figures fall to 240,000 read and 105,000 write IOPS and 1,100 MB/s, so a 24Gb controller and backplane are needed for its full speed.
Lenovo's support matrix lists it for the first ThinkSystem generation (SR630, SR650, SR530, SR550, SR570, SR590, ST550, SR850, SR850P, SR860, SR950, SD530, SN550, SN850), V2 servers (ST650 V2, SR630 V2, SR650 V2, SR670 V2, SN550 V2, SR850 V2, SR860 V2) and the AMD SR635 and SR655. It is not listed for V3 or V4 servers; those use other 24Gb SAS drives such as the Vendor Agnostic 3.84TB 4XB7B07602.
The previous-generation PM1643a at this size is 4XB7A17055 (B91D). Other PM1653 sizes run from 960GB 4XB7A80318 (BNWC) to 30.72TB 4XB7A80323 (BP3D). Lenovo Press lists this option as current. To confirm fit, check the server against the list and the SAS speed of its controller.
