QSFP-40G-LR4-S is the S-Class Cisco 40GBASE-LR4 QSFP transceiver. It reaches up to 10 km over standard G.652 single-mode fibre and connects with a duplex LC connector. The nominal wavelength is 1310 nm, carried on four lanes at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm, and together the four lanes carry 40 Gigabit Ethernet in each direction over one fibre pair.
Optical power per lane is a maximum of 2.3 dBm and a minimum of -7 dBm at the transmitter, and a maximum of 2.3 dBm and a minimum of -13.7 dBm at the receiver. Power consumption is 3.5 W. The operating temperature is 0 to 70 C and storage is -40 to 85 C.
Cisco states that the module supports the 40GBASE Ethernet rate only and does not support FCoE. The standard QSFP-40G-LR4 shares the same reach, fibre, connector, wavelengths and power figures, and is the version described with OTU3 data-rate support.
More optics are in Cisco modules, such as the SFP-10G-LR-S and the SFP-10G-SR.
