01KP952 is the LTO 8 half-high Fibre Channel drive for the IBM TS4300 tape library, feature code B1ER. It is an Ultrium 8 drive with an 8 Gbps Fibre Channel interface in the half-high form factor, and each TS4300 module takes up to three of them. The drive installs in a hot-swap sled.
An LTO 8 cartridge holds 12 TB native, which Lenovo puts at 30 TB compressed with 2.5 to 1 compression. The half-high LTO 8 drive reaches a native data rate of up to 300 MB/s, while the full-high LTO 8 Fibre Channel drive, 01KP954 with feature B1ET, reaches up to 360 MB/s. LTO 8 writes 3,584 data tracks, against 6,656 for LTO 9.
LTO 8 drives in the TS4300 support Library Managed Encryption and WORM media. LTO 7 media initialized as LTO 8 Type M holds 9 TB native, and the library accepts mixed LTO 9, 8 and 7 media.
The half-high drives of the neighbouring generations are 01KP936 for LTO 7 (feature B16W) and 02JH835 for LTO 9 (feature BLVZ), both Fibre Channel. The 6 Gbps SAS version of this LTO 8 drive is 01KP953 with feature B1ES, and the Fibre Channel wrap tool for drive support is 01KP939 with feature B16R.
