WS-C4500X-40X-ES is the Catalyst 4500-X fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet aggregation switch with 40 SFP+/SFP ports. It is built with the Enterprise Services feature set, front-to-back cooling and no power supplies installed, so the supplies are separate parts.
Software support starts at Cisco IOS XE 3.3.0SG, and 3.4.0SG is required for VSS. The 3.3.0 images for the 32- and 40-port models are S45XU-33-1511SG (non-crypto) and S45XUK9-33-1511SG (crypto); the universal 3.4.0 images are S45XU-34-1512SG and S45XUK9-34-1512SG.
The 4500-X family delivers up to 800 Gbps of system throughput and up to 250 Mpps of IPv4 routing and Layer 2 bridging in hardware, with 125 Mpps for IPv6. It supports 55K MAC entries, 47K ARP entries, 4094 VLANs and SVIs, 10K spanning-tree instances and 128K Flexible NetFlow entries, and it carries 32 MB of shared port buffers. A dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU runs the system with 4 GB of SRAM DDR-II and 2 GB of NVRAM.
For power, the switch takes two hot-swappable 750 W supplies: C4KX-PWR-750AC-R for AC (100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz) or C4KX-PWR-750DC-R for DC (-72 to -40 VDC), both front-to-back. System power is 330 W nominal and 400 W maximum. Five field-replaceable fans cool the chassis and one fan can fail without a performance impact; the front-to-back spare fan is C4KX-FAN-R. The smaller WS-C4500X-32SFP+ 32-port 10G switch belongs to the same 4500-X family.
