IBM feature #EM8D is a 64 GB CDIMM, 1600 MHz DDR3 DRAM, for the IBM Power S814 (8286-41A), Power S824 (8286-42A) and Power S824L (8247-42L). Each feature code equals a single physical CDIMM, and CDIMMs are custom DIMMs with a buffer cache. The CDIMM is CCIN 31EA with FRU part number 00VK197.
Memory is ordered and installed in pairs, and both CDIMMs of a pair must have the same capacity. The Power S814 needs at least 16 GB and the Power S824 and S824L at least 32 GB of memory. The 64 GB size sits between the 32 GB (#EM8Z on the S814 and S824, #EM8C on the S824L) and 128 GB (#EM8E) DDR3 CDIMMs, and the DDR4 64 GB CDIMM of the same family is #EM93. The four-core Power S814 processor option (#EPXK) accepts only the 16 GB #EM8B.
Each CDIMM carries 16 MB of L4 cache built from eDRAM, so a fully populated Power S824 with sixteen CDIMMs has 128 MB of L4 cache. A Power S814 or S824 with one 6-core or 8-core processor module holds up to 1 TB, and with two modules up to 2 TB. The Power S824L holds up to 2 TB with sixteen 128 GB CDIMMs.
