IBM feature #EM93 is a 64 GB DDR4 memory CDIMM, CCIN 31EE, for the Power S814 and S824 (machine type 8286) and the Power S824L (8247-42L). On these POWER8 servers the DDR4 modules operate at DDR3 speed, so the access rate is 1600 MHz. The FRU number of the CDIMM is 00VK306.
Each feature code equates to one physical CDIMM. CDIMMs are ordered and installed in pairs, and both CDIMMs of a pair must have the same capacity. Each CDIMM carries 16 MB of L4 cache in its buffer, built on eDRAM, and a fully populated Power S824L has 256 MB of L4 cache, against 128 MB on a Power S824. The quantity maximum for #EM93 is 8 on the Power S814 and S824 and 16 on the Power S824L.
The Power S814 has eight CDIMM slots and a 1 TB memory ceiling; the Power S824 and S824L have sixteen slots and a 2 TB ceiling with two processor modules, reached with 128 GB CDIMMs. A minimum of 16 GB of memory is required on the Power S814 and 32 GB on the Power S824 and S824L. The 4-core processor feature #EPXK on the Power S814 allows only the 16 GB #EM8B CDIMM, so #EM93 does not apply there.
On a Power S824L with one processor module the first pair goes in slots C16 and C18, then C21 and C23, C17 and C19, and C20 and C22; with two processor modules the order continues with C24 and C26, C29 and C31, C25 and C27, and C28 and C30.
