3588-F4A is the IBM System Storage TS1040 Tape Drive, known as the LTO Ultrium 4 tape drive, with a 4 Gbps Fibre Channel interface. Its native data rate is 120 MB/s and its native capacity is 800 GB per cartridge. It is a drive for the TS3500 Tape Library, in the same line as the TS1030 models 3588-F3B and 3588-F3A, which are Ultrium 3 drives.
In the TS3500 the 3588-F4A sits in the model L53 base frame or the model D53 expansion frame, both built for the 4 Gbps Fibre Channel LTO drives, and the L53 frame can also hold LTO 1, 2 and 3 drives. TS1040 drives support hardware tape encryption, and for library-managed encryption in a TS3500 L53 or D53 frame the Fibre Channel model 3588-F4A is the only TS1040 model supported, with the Transparent LTO Encryption feature 1604 on the library.
The TS1040 LTO4 drive is also supported in the TS3100, TS3200 and TS3310 libraries when the Transparent LTO Encryption feature 5900 is installed, and the TS3500 drive family covers 4 Gbps Fibre Channel drives such as the TS1130 and TS1120 3592 models.
