7895-23X IBM Flex System p260 Compute Node

The IBM 7895-23X is a model of the IBM Flex System p260 Compute Node, a standard-width, two-processor POWER server for the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. Model 23X carries POWER7+ processors and runs AIX, IBM i and Linux.

The 23X processor options are feature EPRD (8-core, 4.0 GHz, two 4-core processors), feature EPRB (16-core, 3.6 GHz, two 8-core processors) and feature EPRA (16-core, 4.1 GHz, two 8-core processors). Each POWER7+ core has 10 MB of L3 cache, and the processors use 32 nm fabrication with SMT4 mode and four memory channels each. The chipset is the IBM P7IOC I/O hub.

The node has 16 DIMM sockets for DDR3 RDIMMs running at 1066 MHz, with ECC and chipkill protection. Low profile and very low profile DIMMs are supported, but only very low profile DIMMs with the internal hard drives. Storage is two non-hot-swap drive bays for 2.5-inch SAS hard drives or 1.8-inch SATA solid-state drives, which cannot be mixed, with RAID through the operating system.

Two I/O connectors (PCIe 2.0 x16) take adapters for 10 Gb Ethernet, 8 Gb Fibre Channel or QDR InfiniBand, as there is no network interface as standard. The node has one external USB port, a flexible service processor, light path diagnostics and no video, with remote management through Serial over LAN and IBM Flex System Manager. It measures 215 mm wide, 51 mm high and 493 mm deep and weighs up to 7.0 kg. IBM made the 7895-23X generally available on 3 December 2012 and withdrew it from marketing on 9 February 2016, with end of support dated 30 September 2019.
