IBM #1107 USB 500 GB Removable Disk Drive for 7226 and 9119

IBM feature #1107 is the 500 GB Removable Disk Drive, part number 46C5379, that is the 500 GB RDX removable drive capacity option for the IBM 7226 Multi-Media Enclosure and for POWER8 servers of machine type 9119 through the RDX USB External Dock, feature EU04. The drive is a USB removable disk drive cartridge that inserts into the RDX USB External Dock, feature EU04, and it is a backup and restore device that can be used as an alternative to tape drives. It does not take the place of regular disk drives and cannot be used as part of a disk array.

The removable disk drives are a supply item that can be ordered as a feature code, and they are not a service item. The USB interface is USB 3.0. The drive supports AIX mksysb and is bootable. Operating conditions are 5 to 55 degrees C with 8% to 90% noncondensing relative humidity and a maximum wet bulb temperature of 29.4 degrees C. Non-operating conditions are -40 to +65 degrees C and 5% to 95% noncondensing relative humidity.

Each drive has a red write-protect tab on the back, and sliding it toward the lock symbol write-protects the drive. The drive has an indicator light: steady green means ready, flashing green means activity, and flashing amber means the dock has detected a fault with the cartridge. AIX configures the drive as usbms, IBM i configures it as a removable media drive in the RMS format, and Linux configures it as a disk drive in the sd format. Supported systems run AIX 7.1 or 6.1 or later, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or later, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 or later, and IBM i 7.2 or 7.1 or later.
