IBM feature #5638 is a half-high LTO-5 SAS tape drive for the IBM Power 720 Express Server, machine type 8202. It uses industry standard Ultrium media and holds 1.5TB native, or 3.0TB in typical compression mode.
The drive writes and reads Ultrium 5 and Ultrium 4 (LTO-4) formats and reads Ultrium 3 (LTO-3). It is a linear streaming drive with a data transfer rate of 140 MB/sec on LTO-5 media, and speed matching goes down to 40 MB/sec. The form factor is 5.25-inch half high.
The feature includes one half-high LTO-5 SAS tape drive, one LTO-5 cleaning cartridge and one LTO-5 test cartridge. It needs one 1.6-inch (41mm) half-high media bay.
No #5638 drive is required, and one is the maximum, also for the initial order. Supported operating systems are AIX 5.3, 6.1 and 7.1, IBM i 6.1 and 7.1, SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux. VIOS attachment requires version 2.2 or later.
The feature can be ordered initially or as an MES. Customer setup (CSU) is yes, and there are no return parts on an MES.
