IBM #8646 HHLTO9 Fibre Channel Tape Drive for 7226 Model 1U3

IBM feature #8646 is the half-high LTO Ultrium 9 Fibre Channel tape drive for the IBM System Storage 7226 Model 1U3 Multi-Media Enclosure. It has a native capacity of up to 18 TB, or 45 TB with 2.5:1 compression, and a data rate of up to 250-280 MB/second without compression.

The drive reads and writes the Ultrium 8 media format, and it is not read or write compatible with other Ultrium media formats.

The feature includes a diagnostic test cartridge, a cleaning cartridge, a half-high drive latch, a FC interface assembly and an external FC cable. On the 7226 enclosure it supports data encryption on the base drive with media meeting LTO consortium specifications, and application managed encryption using the IEEE P1619.1-2007 compliant AES-GCM 256 bit algorithm. Encryption is performed after compression, with a minimal effect on data rate and capacity.

The enclosure requires at least one drive feature and allows two in any combination from #1420, #5762, #5763, #5619, #8241, #8248, #8348, #8341, #8441, #8446, #8541, #8546, #8641, #8646, #EU03 or #EU16. #8646 has no prerequisites, corequisites or compatibility conflicts. When feature #ADNR, #ACY1 or #ACW4 is on the order, the maximum quantity allowed is 99 and the prerequisite features are not applicable.

Customer setup is supported, and the drive is installable at the plant or in the field.
