The IBM 3555-L3A is the base module of the IBM TS4300 Tape Library, a modular LTO library built from 3U units. IBM lists machine type 3555 with model L3A for the base and model E3A for expansion modules. The base module holds one full-height drive or up to three half-height drives, and a library can grow to 16 modules with up to 640 cartridge slots. With LTO-9 media that is up to 11.52 PB of native capacity. IBM's tape drive page says the 3555 L3A and E3A support LTO generations 6 through 9; the newer machine type 5544 supports LTO-8 through LTO-10. Drives are ordered as features: AGKJ for LTO-7 half-height Fibre Channel, AGKM for LTO-8 and AGLA for LTO-9. IBM announced the L3A on July 25, 2017 and lists December 31, 2026 for its marketing withdrawal. To confirm a unit, read the machine type-model on the module label, count the modules and installed drives, and check the drive interfaces before adding parts.
