IBM feature #EM8Y is the 1024 GB (4x256 GB) CDIMM memory feature with 1600 MHz, 4 Gbit DDR4 DRAM, the largest CDIMM feature for the IBM Power E870 and E880 (machine type 9119) and the Power E870C and E880C (machine type 9080). Each memory feature provides four CDIMMs, so one #EM8Y supplies four 256 GB CDIMMs. The 256 GB DDR4 CDIMM is CCIN 31FC, FRU 00VK242.
The 256 GB CDIMM is a tall form factor design with 152 SDRAM chips. The DDR4 #EM8Y CDIMM cannot be mixed with another size CDIMM on the same system node or on the same server. Each system node has 32 CDIMM slots and takes a maximum of eight memory features. Each feature code equals a memory quad, every installed processor needs at least one quad populated, and all CDIMMs on one POWER8 processor must be identical. At least 50 percent of the installed memory must be activated through memory activation features.
The buffer on each CDIMM carries 16 MB of L4 cache built on eDRAM. Memory is placed in quads, and a processor can have only four or eight CDIMMs attached. DDR3 and DDR4 memory can be installed in one system as long as all of the memory within each system node is the same type.
