00AJ045 Lenovo S3500 240GB SATA 1.8in MLC Enterprise Value SSD

00AJ045 is Lenovo's S3500 240GB SATA 1.8" MLC Enterprise Value SSD for System x (feature code A4KW): a 240GB S3500 Enterprise Value drive in the 1.8-inch size, supplied without a drive tray; Lenovo notes it can be hot-swap or non-hot-swap depending on the server.

Inside is Intel 20 nm MLC flash on a 6 Gbps SATA link. The guide credits the drives with 256-bit AES encryption, end-to-end data path protection and enhanced protection against power loss, and gives 5 W typical power, 2,000,000 hours MTBF and fewer than 1 in 10^17 bits read as the data reliability figure.

Rated figures for this capacity: 140 TB total bytes written, 75,000 random read IOPS, 7,500 random write IOPS, 500 MBps sequential read and 260 MBps sequential write.

The guide explains that Enterprise Value and Enterprise SSDs read at similar IOPS but differ in endurance and write IOPS. TBW is the total data Lenovo rates the drive to write; after passing it, the drive reaches end of life at some point and goes read-only, so write volume should be planned against the rating.

Lenovo's compatibility tables list it for the x3650 M4 and x3650 M4 HD, the x3750 M4 (8722 and 8752), the x3690 X5 and x3850 X5/x3950 X5, plus Flex System x220, x222, x240, x240 M5 and x440 compute nodes and the HX5 blade. Lenovo's Configuration and Options Guide of 17 January 2017 also lists it for the x3750 M4 (8753), marked with an asterisk as withdrawn.
