00FN278 Lenovo S3500 1.6TB SATA 2.5in MLC Enterprise Value SSD

Lenovo lists 00FN278 as the S3500 1.6TB SATA 2.5" MLC G3HS Enterprise Value SSD for System x with feature code A5U6; it is a 1.6TB, 2.5-inch S3500 Enterprise Value SSD and ships on a Gen 3 hot-swap (G3HS) tray.

Lenovo built the S3500 family on Intel 20 nm MLC NAND with a 6 Gbps SATA interface. Feature list: AES-256 encryption, full data path protection, power loss data protection, thermal throttling and S.M.A.R.T.; typical draw is 5 W and read and write latency are 50 and 65 microseconds.

Per the guide's table, the 1.6TB model reaches 65,000 read IOPS and 14,600 write IOPS (4 KB), streams at 500 MBps read and 460 MBps write (128 KB) and is rated for 880 TB written.

Endurance is the figure to plan around. Lenovo defines TBW as the total bytes of written data the drive is rated to complete, and notes that reaching it does not cause immediate failure, but the drive later goes into read-only mode at end of life.

In Lenovo's server support tables the drive shows a Y for the Flex System x280, x480 and x880 X6 compute nodes (7903). Lenovo's Configuration and Options Guide of 17 January 2017 also lists it for the x3500 M5, x3550 M5, x3650 M5 and x3750 M4 (8753), marked with an asterisk as withdrawn.
