N7K-F248XP-25 is the Cisco Nexus 7000 F2-Series 48-port 1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet module for SFP and SFP+ optics; the spare is N7K-F248XP-25=. Each port runs at 1 or 10 Gigabit Ethernet, so a link can move to 10G later without a new card. The module works in every Nexus 7000 chassis and needs NX-OS 6.0 or later.
It is built on switch-on-chip ASICs that each manage four front-panel ports. The module forwards 720 million packets per second of Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic, with up to 480 Gbps of throughput, and it has 72 MB of virtual output queue buffer. The fabric interface runs at 550 Gbps in each direction across up to five fabric modules. Each ASIC holds 16,384 MAC entries, up to 196,608 per module, and each virtual device context supports 4,096 VLANs. Jumbo frames up to 9,216 bytes are supported.
Software features include Cisco FabricPath, Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding, virtual device contexts, and FCoE with VF, VN and VE ports for multi-hop topologies. It also works with Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders. Typical power draw is 350 W and the maximum is 450 W. The module occupies one I/O slot, measures 1.733 x 15.3 x 21.9 in. (4.4 x 38.9 x 55.6 cm) and weighs 14 lb (6.3 kg), or 16 lb (7.2 kg) with transceivers.
In the 18-slot chassis, the N7K-C7018 can carry up to 768 wire-rate 10G ports from modules of this type.
