ST28000NM003K is the 28TB Instant Secure Erase model in the Seagate Exos SATA line that tops out at 32TB. It ships in the 512E configuration, and Fast Format conversion to 4KN is supported.
Twenty heads work across ten discs at 1841 Gb/in2 areal density, recording at 2470 Kb/in and 738 ktracks/in. Sustained transfer at the outer diameter is 270 MB/s, the internal data rate peaks at 2852 Mb/s, and the 512MB cache buffer sits behind the 7200 RPM spindle with 4.16 ms average latency. SATA moves data at up to 600MB/s.
The drive weighs up to 695g (1.532 lb). Startup draws a typical 2.6A on the 12V rail and power-on to ready takes 30 seconds typical.
The annualized failure rate is 0.35% at 8760 power-on hours, the workload ceiling is under 550TB per year, the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles and nonrecoverable read errors are limited to one sector per 10E15 bits read.
