ST4000NM0023 is the standard 4TB model of the Seagate Constellation ES.3 SAS family, with no drive-based encryption. It carries a 128MB data buffer and spins at 7200 RPM, with an average rotational latency of 4.16 ms.
Ten read/write heads work at an areal density of 578 Gb/in2 with an internal data rate of up to 2210 Mb/s. Sustained transfer runs from 83 to 175 MB/s. The SAS interface auto-negotiates 1.5, 3.0 or 6.0 Gb, and the drive weighs 700 g (1.543 lb).
The annualized failure rate is 0.44% with an MTBF of 2,000,000 hours, the workload ceiling is under 550TB per year, the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles, and nonrecoverable read errors are limited to 1 per 10E15 bits read.
Background Media Scan, Idle Read After Write and Seagate RAID Rebuild are built in, with a 128-deep task set, support for SAS expanders and up to 32 initiators, and mounting in vertical, horizontal or top-down orientation.
The family also includes ST4000NM0043 (self-encrypting) and ST4000NM0063 (FIPS 140-2), and the same standard model comes in 3TB, 2TB and 1TB capacities as ST3000NM0023, ST2000NM0023 and ST1000NM0023.
