WS-X6748-GE-TX is the Cisco Catalyst 6500 CEF720 48-port 10/100/1000 module with RJ-45 ports, rated for runs up to 100 m on Category 5 cable. Cisco positions this module for data center and server farm use and lists it as field-upgradable to distributed forwarding with a DFC daughter card.
Each module connects to the switch fabric over dual 20 Gbps channels, 40 Gbps in total, and works only with Supervisor Engine 720. Cisco gives up to 30 Mpps per system with the centralized CEF engine and up to 48 Mpps per slot with a DFC3, against 720 Gbps of switching capacity. Buffering is 1.3 MB per port, queueing is 1p3q8t on transmit and 1q8t on receive when distributed CEF is used, and jumbo frames up to 9,216 bytes are supported. Cisco states that PoE is not supported on CEF720 10/100/1000 modules, and TDR cable testing is supported.
It fits any slot of the Catalyst 6506, 6509, 6509-NEB-A and 6500 E-Series chassis, and slots 9 to 13 of the Catalyst 6513, with up to 384 ports in a Catalyst 6509. The module occupies one slot.
