HPE MR416i-o Gen11 x16 Lanes 8GB Cache OCP SPDM Storage Controller, P47781-B21

P47781-B21 is the HPE MR416i-o Gen11, a tri-mode RAID controller in the OCP NIC 3.0 form factor, built on Broadcom MegaRAID technology. PartSurfer lists the service spare as P47952-001. The PCIe plug-in version with the same specification is the MR416i-p, P47777-B21.

HPE's MR controller QuickSpecs gives it a Broadcom Aero ASIC, a PCIe 4.0 x8 host interface and 16 internal storage lanes through two x8 SlimSAS ports. It supports up to 16 drives without an expander: 16Gb/s NVMe, 12Gb/s SAS and 6Gb/s SATA, HDD or SSD. It has 8GB of flash-backed write cache (DDR4-2666) with read-ahead and write-back caching, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, mixed RAID and HBA mode and up to 64 volumes. SPDM certificate authentication with iLO 6 and a hardware root of trust protect the firmware. Controller, backplane and drive firmware can be updated online.

The HPE Smart Storage energy pack, either battery or hybrid capacitor, is optional with this controller and is needed to protect the write cache on power loss. PartSurfer shows the spare in DL380, DL360, DL320, DL385 and ML350 Gen11 configurations, DL380 Gen12 builds and StoreEasy 1670.

Because it sits in the OCP slot, it leaves the server's PCIe slots free, but it takes the OCP position that a network adapter might otherwise use. Arrays created on MR controllers cannot be moved to HPE SR (Microchip) controllers, so replace like with like.
