ST8000NM000A is the standard 8TB model of the Seagate Exos 7E8 SATA family, a 3.5-inch enterprise drive with a 7200 RPM spindle and a 256MB cache buffer. It formats with 512-byte logical sectors on 4096-byte physical sectors (512E), and the SET SECTOR CONFIGURATION EXT command can convert it to 4KN in seconds.
Ten heads work across five discs at an areal density of 930 Gb/in2. The outer-diameter sustained rate reaches 238 MiB/s (249 MB/s), the SATA interface moves data at up to 600MB/s and average latency is 4.16 ms. Hot-plug operation under Serial ATA Revision 3.3 is supported.
The annualized failure rate is 0.44% at 8760 power-on hours, the maximum workload is under 550TB per year and the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles. Nonrecoverable read errors are limited to one sector per 10E15 bits read, and the drive weighs up to 716g (1.579 lb).
The same 8TB capacity is also made as a self-encrypting ST8000NM004A, a FIPS 140-2 ST8000NM008A and an Instant Secure Erase ST8000NM012A.
