The Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 SATA line includes the 6TB ST6000NM0024, a standard 5xxE model: 512-byte logical sectors over 4096-byte physical sectors, with no drive-based encryption. A 128MB buffer and a 7200 RPM spindle with 4.16 ms average latency define its performance profile.
Twelve heads read six discs, with a recording density of 1981 Kb/in and a track density of 320 ktracks/in, which together make up an areal density of 633 Gb/in2. Sustained transfer at the outer diameter is 216 MiB/s (226 MB/s), the interface runs at up to 600MB/s, and the internal data rate peaks at 2317 Mb/s.
Native Command Queuing, PowerChoice power saving, S.M.A.R.T. monitoring, a top-cover-attached motor for vibration tolerance and Worldwide Name identification are built in. The drive weighs up to 780g (1.72 lb) and supports hot-plug under Serial ATA Revision 3.2.
The annualized failure rate is 0.44% over 8760 power-on hours, workload is capped at under 550TB per year, and the drive carries 600,000 load-unload cycles. The 4KN standard counterpart is ST6000NM0004, the self-encrypting 5xxE version is ST6000NM0044 and the FIPS 140-2 version is ST6000NM0084.
