ST4000NM0034 is the 4TB standard 5xxE model of the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 SAS family. Logical block size is selectable at format time between 512, 520, 524 or 528 bytes, and the interface auto-negotiates 1.5, 3.0, 6.0 or 12.0 Gb SAS through an integrated dual-port controller.
The drive spins at 7200 RPM with 4.16 ms average latency and carries a 128MB buffer. Eight read/write heads work at an areal density of 643 Gb/in2, internal data rate peaks at 2317 Mb/s, and sustained transfer ranges from 100 to 216 MiB/s. Each SAS port moves up to 1200MB/s.
The task set is 128 deep, up to 32 initiators are supported, and SAS expanders and fanout adapters work with it. Seagate RAID Rebuild, Power Save, SAS Power Disable and Idle Read After Write are built in. The drive weighs 680 g (1.500 lb).
The annualized failure rate is 0.44% with an MTBF of 2,000,000 hours. Maximum workload is under 550TB per year, the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles, and nonrecoverable read errors are limited to 1 per 10E15 bits read.
