ST22000NM000E is the standard 22TB model of the Seagate Exos X22 SAS family, a helium-filled 3.5-inch drive. It ships formatted 512E and supports T10 Fast Format conversion to 4KN, with block sizes of 512, 520 or 528 bytes selectable on 512E units.
Twenty-two read/write heads work at 1146 Gb/in2 areal density, the internal data rate peaks at 2899 Mb/s, and sustained transfer runs from 133 to 270 MiB/s. The spindle turns at 7200 RPM with 4.16 ms average latency, and a 256MB buffer sits in front of the media.
Interface is dual-port SAS at 3.0, 6.0 or 12.0 Gb, with 1200MB/s per port and 2400MB/s across both ports. The drive supports SAS expanders, up to 32 initiators and a 128-deep task set, and it adds Power Balance and SAS Power Disable. It weighs 685 g (1.510 lb).
The annualized failure rate is 0.35% with an MTBF of 2,500,000 hours, workload tops out at under 550TB per year, and the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles. The self-encrypting counterpart is ST22000NM004E and the FIPS 140-3 model is ST22000NM006E.
