Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 EtherSwitch Service Module, 16 GE Ports, PoE+

SM-X-ES3-16-P is a Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 EtherSwitch service module with 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports (all 10/100/1000), PoE+ capable. It is a single-width module for the Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series and the Cisco 4451-X Integrated Services Router. The 24-port SM-X-ES3-24-P is single width too, while the 48-port SM-X-ES3D-48-P is double width.

Feature sets match those of the Catalyst 3560-X Series, so a branch can run the same configuration as headquarters. The default software is LAN Base, with up to 255 VLANs and Layer 2 access features. IP Base, with 1,000 VLANs, and IP Services for advanced IPv4 and IPv6 Layer 3 switching are available as upgrades. The module also adds Cisco TrustSec, MACsec, 802.1X, IEEE 802.3at PoE+ and per-port PoE power monitoring.

Each module links to the router multigigabit fabric (MGF) at 1 Gbps, and traffic between modules switches over the MGF, which keeps LAN traffic apart from WAN resources. Minimum software is EtherSwitch release 15.0(2)EJ, Cisco IOS M&T release 15.3(3)M, or IOS XE 3.10 on the router. The module measures 20.6 x 20.7 x 4.0 cm and weighs 0.9 kg. On a 4451-X, PWR-4450-AC covers the no-PoE case, while PoE use calls for PWR-4450-POE-AC.
