7063-CR1 IBM Power Systems Hardware Management Console

The IBM 7063-CR1 is a rack-mounted Hardware Management Console (HMC) for IBM Power Systems servers. Memory is four 8 GB modules of the same type, installed in positions P1M1-DIMMA, P1M1-DIMMB, P1M2-DIMMA and P1M2-DIMMB.

Storage is two physical disk drives configured as a single RAID 1 virtual drive with the ID 0. The drives mount in drive trays, a failed drive can be replaced with the power on while the HMC keeps working, and the array is checked and rebuilt with the mvCLI utility.

The rear panel carries a USB 2.0 port for the keyboard and mouse, an Ethernet IPMI port, a serial IPMI port and a VGA port. The VGA output supports only 1024 x 768 at 60 Hz and a cable of up to 3 meters. The two front USB ports can be used, and the front serial port is non-functional. A separate Ethernet connection links the HMC to the managed system, and the IPMI Ethernet port must be connected to a network to reach the baseboard management controller used for service tasks and firmware maintenance.

Serviceable parts include the disk drives, the disk drive backplane, fans, memory, PCIe adapters, power supplies, the system backplane, the system processor module, the time-of-day battery and the USB cable. The system might be equipped with two or more power supplies. IBM made the 7063-CR1 generally available on 15 September 2017 and withdrew it from marketing on 13 April 2021, with the transition to end of support services dated 31 December 2026. The 7063-CR2 is the recommended replacement.
