IBM feature #EM52 is a 64 GB DDR3 memory feature for the IBM Power System S822LC, machine type 8335, on the 8335-GCA and 8335-GTA models. Each feature code equates to one memory riser card that carries four 16 GB DDR3 DRAM DIMMs running at 1333 MHz.
The riser card houses a memory buffer with a memory scheduler, memory management for RAS decisions and energy management, and a 16 MB L4 cache built on eDRAM. The S822LC has eight memory riser cards, so a fully populated server has 128 MB of L4 cache and up to 1024 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC memory. The 64 GB size sits between the 32 GB (#EM51) and 128 GB (#EM53) features.
On the 8335-GCA a minimum of two memory features is required, features cannot be mixed, and the valid quantities are two, four and eight, which total 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB of memory with #EM52. On the 8335-GTA every memory position must be populated with the same feature and memory upgrades are not supported, so the only #EM52 configuration is eight features, 512 GB in total.
