IBM feature #EM50 is the 16 GB DDR3 memory feature for the IBM Power System S822LC, machine type 8335, models 8335-GCA and 8335-GTA. Each feature code equates to one memory riser card that carries four 4 GB, 1333 MHz DDR3 DRAMs. The riser card also holds a memory scheduler, memory management logic for RAS decisions and energy management, and a buffer cache. That buffer is an L4 cache built on eDRAM, with 16 MB on each riser card.
The Power S822LC is a two-socket POWER8 server with eight memory riser cards, for up to 32 DDR3 RDIMMs. Memory is available as 16 GB (#EM50), 32 GB (#EM51), 64 GB (#EM52) and 128 GB (#EM53) riser cards, and a maximum of 1024 GB is reached with eight #EM53.
On the Power S822LC model 8335-GCA at least two memory features are required, and valid quantities are two, four and eight. Memory features cannot be mixed, and the base memory is 32 GB, two #EM50 riser cards. Later memory upgrades must match the capacity of the initial memory, and eight #EM50 total 128 GB.
On the Power S822LC model 8335-GTA all the memory modules are populated, so the base memory is 128 GB with eight #EM50 riser cards, and memory upgrades are not supported.
