IBM #EL3P 16 GB CDIMM, 1600 MHz DDR3 DRAM for 8247

IBM feature #EL3P is a 16 GB CDIMM with 1600 MHz DDR3 DRAM for the IBM Power System S812L (8247-21L) and Power System S822L (8247-22L), the Linux-only POWER8 servers. Its CCIN is 31E8 and its FRU part number is 00VK192. The Power S812L and S822L offer three DDR3 sizes, 16 GB (#EL3P), 32 GB (#EL3Q) and 64 GB (#EL3R), and the 16 GB DDR4 counterpart is #EM96 with CCIN 31EC and FRU 00VK247.

One #EL3P is one physical CDIMM. The maximum quantity of #EL3P is 16 on the S822L, whose memory tops out at 1024 GB with sixteen 64 GB modules, while the S812L tops out at 512 GB. The S812L can start from a single #EL3P for its 16 GB minimum, and its memory upgrades are ordered in pairs. The S822L starts from two #EL3P modules as base memory, for a 32 GB minimum, and every module pair must be identical.

DDR3 and DDR4 modules cannot be mixed in the system, and DDR4 modules run at DDR3 speed. On a one-processor S812L the first module goes in slot C16, the second in C18, and further identical pairs in C21 and C23, then C17 and C19, then C20 and C22. On a two-processor S822L the pair order is C16 and C18, C24 and C26, C21 and C23, C29 and C31, C17 and C19, C25 and C27, C20 and C22, then C28 and C30.
