210-ADBC: Dell PowerEdge R730xd server

The Dell PowerEdge R730xd server, 210-ADBC, is the storage-oriented 2U member of the R730 family, with two processor sockets, the Intel C610 chipset and 24 DDR4 DIMM slots that take registered and load-reduced DIMMs. Processor choices are Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 models with up to 18 cores per processor, and the E5-2687W v3 is not supported in the R730xd.

Its front bays are hot-plug and sit behind a removable bezel: up to twenty-four 2.5-inch drives, a 3.5-inch drive configuration, or eight 3.5-inch drives together with eighteen 1.8-inch SATA SSDs. An optional flex bay at the back adds two 2.5-inch hot-plug drives. Up to four hot-plug Express Flash PCIe SSDs are supported, which the R730 does not offer. The internal controllers are PERC H330, H730 and H730P, with the PERC H830 for external storage; the S130 software RAID is for the R730 only.

The R730xd has up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot: two x16 full-length full-height slots, one x8 full-length full-height slot and three x8 half-length low-profile slots. It has no internal optical drive and does not support internal or external GPUs. The front panel has an LED status panel instead of an LCD, one front USB port, two rear USB ports and one internal USB port, and the vFlash card slot sits at the back.

Up to two hot-plug power supplies fit, in 495 W, 750 W and 1100 W AC and 1100 W DC ratings, and N+1 fan redundancy keeps the system running through a single fan failure. Management is iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller. The chassis weighs 11.7 kg empty in the 2.5-inch version and 10.3 kg empty in the 3.5-inch version, and reaches 29.5 kg and 32.5 kg fully loaded.
