223-4490 is the Dell PowerEdge 2950 III base unit, Quad Core Xeon E5420 2.5GHz, 2x6MB cache, 1333MHz FSB. The PowerEdge 2950 is a rack system with two microprocessors, each in a land grid array package seated in a ZIF socket on the system board under a heatsink, and eight memory sockets under a cooling shroud next to the power supply bays. Four hot-pluggable fans cool the chassis.
The front panel carries the power button, an NMI button, a system identification button, an LCD panel for system ID, status and error messages, two USB connectors and a video connector. Drive bays come in three configurations: eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays, six 3.5-inch hot-plug bays, or four 3.5-inch hot-plug bays with a media bay for an optional slimline IDE or DVD drive. Drives connect through one of three SAS backplane boards.
The back panel has two power supply bays, two NIC connectors, two USB connectors, a video connector, a serial connector, three expansion slots and a slot for an optional remote access controller. The system takes one or two 750 W power supplies, and the second supply is redundant and hot-plug. The left riser board carries two slots, either PCI-X or PCIe, and the central riser one PCIe x8 slot. Memory uses fully buffered DDR II modules installed in matched pairs.
